GSO and GORD Organize a Specialized Training Workshop on the “GSAS” System
The GCC Standardization Training Center, affiliated with the GCC Standardization Organization (GSO), in cooperation with the Gulf Organization for Research and Development (GORD), recently organized a specialized training workshop on the “GSAS” system at GSO headquarters in Riyadh.
The workshop formed part of an intensive three-day training program focusing on the GSAS Design & Build (GSAS-D&B) framework. It attracted more than 75 participants from government entities and relevant sectors across GCC Member States, within the context of building the professional capacities required to ensure comprehensive and effective implementation of the approved Gulf standard.
The workshop covered environmental performance assessment methodologies within the GSAS framework across eight main categories: Energy, Water, Indoor Environment, Cultural and Economic Value, Site, Urban Connectivity, Materials, and Management & Operations. The program also included hands-on training on key system tools, including GSAS calculators and the GSASgate online platform for managing sustainable building projects and tracking evaluation and certification procedures.
The workshop further supported participants in preparing for the mandatory qualifying examination to obtain the Certified Green Professional (CGP) – Design & Build credential, thereby enhancing institutional readiness to adopt green practices and deliver certified services in this field.
The organization of this workshop comes in support of the effective implementation of the new Gulf Standard GSO 3000:2025, which was formally approved by the GSO Technical Council at its 61st meeting (October 2025, State of Kuwait) as the unified Gulf framework for sustainable buildings in the construction sector. This approval reflects GSO’s strategic direction toward developing an integrated standards system for the construction sector, ensuring the systematic and harmonized integration of sustainability requirements into the Gulf Building Code across Member States, accelerating the adoption of green practices, and contributing to the achievement of sustainable development goals.
The workshop was delivered by experts from the GSAS Trust, affiliated with GORD, through a training approach combining theoretical foundations with practical application, thereby supporting the alignment of sustainability requirements with the Gulf Building Code.
In addition to knowledge transfer, the workshop provides a pathway for participants to sit the mandatory qualifying examination for the Certified Green Professional (CGP) – Design & Build certification, enabling successful candidates to manage GSAS projects. The presence of certified practitioners within institutions also qualifies them to operate as GSAS service providers, enhancing their competitiveness in major projects that require documented sustainability standards
It is worth noting that at its 61st meeting (October 2025, State of Kuwait), the GSO Technical Council officially adopted the global sustainability assessment system “GSAS” as Gulf Standard GSO 3000:2025 for sustainable buildings in the construction sector across GCC countries. This adoption aims to enhance the environmental performance efficiency of urban development projects in Member States and represents a continuation of the GCC’s efforts to establish a practical methodology for implementing sustainability requirements within the construction sector, in support of the Gulf Building Code and the broader regional sustainable development agenda.
