GSO Participates in the 49th Codex Alimentarius Commission
The GCC Standardization Organization (GSO) concluded its active participation in the 49th Session of the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC49), held in Geneva, Switzerland, from 6–10 July 2026, with high-level international participation from Member States and representatives of countries and regional and international organizations from around the world.
During the session, participants discussed a number of international food standards projects and key issues related to food safety, with the aim of protecting consumer health and safety, ensuring fair practices in the international food trade, and strengthening international cooperation in the development of food legislation and standards.
In a significant international achievement reflecting the region’s growing role in global decision-making, the Commission re-elected its Chairperson and Vice-Chairpersons for a new term. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was re-elected as Vice-Chairperson of the Codex Alimentarius Commission, reaffirming its active role and continued contributions in supporting the Commission’s work.
GSO’s participation in this important international forum is aligned with its strategy to strengthen Gulf cooperation and ensure the harmonization of Gulf standards with international standards, thereby contributing to enhancing the quality of food products and safeguarding GCC markets.
