GSO Technical Council Holds Its 63rd Meeting in Riyadh

The 63rd meeting of the Technical Council of the GCC Standardization Organization (GSO), which brings together the heads of the national standardization bodies of the GCC Member States, will commence tomorrow, Wednesday, in Riyadh.

H.E. Eng. Jabor Mohamed Al-Naimi, President of the GCC Standardization Organization, stated that the Technical Council will review a number of key topics related to standards, metrology, and conformity assessment. Among the most prominent items is the approval of a new set of draft Gulf standards and technical regulations, along with their amendments, covering several vital sectors. These will subsequently be submitted to the Ministerial Committee for Standardization Affairs for adoption at its upcoming meeting.

He added that the meeting will also review the results of the automotive tire market surveillance project conducted across the Member States, as well as the development of the Gulf Conformity Certificates System with the aim of achieving accreditation in accordance with the international standard ISO/IEC 17065.

H.E. noted that the Council meeting, to be held on 16–17 September 2026 in Riyadh, will also review the outcomes of meetings held by a number of GCC general and steering committees and working groups. These include the General Committee for Standards, the Metrology Steering Committee, the GCC Committee for Laboratories, the GCC Committee for Conformity Verification, and the GCC Steering Committee for Notification, in addition to the GCC Media Team for Standardization Activities and the GCC International Relations Team.

H.E. further indicated that the meeting will discuss the latest developments regarding the integration of GCC electronic systems with the Member States, the agreement on the terms and conditions governing the use of Gulf standards files, and the updated Intellectual Property Rights Document for GSO documents, publications, products, and services (Second Edition). The meeting will also review the report of the President of the Gulf Metrology Organization (GULFMET) covering the period from April to September 2026.

It is worth noting that GSO operates across various fields of standardization and aims to harmonize standardization activities and follow up on their implementation and compliance in cooperation and coordination with the national standardization bodies of the Member States. These efforts contribute to facilitating trade among Member States, protecting consumers, the environment, and public health, and supporting Gulf industries and products, thereby contributing to the growth of the GCC economy.
