GSO and GULFMET Conduct “Knowledge Bridges” Program in Paris
The GCC Standardization Organization (GSO), in cooperation with the Gulf Metrology Organization (GULFMET), conducted the “Knowledge Bridges” technical and capacity-building visit program in Paris from 20–23 July 2026, with the participation of specialists from GSO and representatives of the GCC Member States working in the fields of scientific and legal metrology, measurement, and calibration.
The program was organized within the framework of the strategic partnerships and technical cooperation between GSO, GULFMET, and their international and national counterparts. It aims to strengthen institutional cooperation, promote knowledge and expertise exchange, and benefit from international best practices in developing metrology systems and quality infrastructure across the GCC Member States. The initiative also seeks to enhance measurement reliability and increase the participation of Gulf experts in international activities, thereby supporting the competitiveness of economic sectors and the GCC Common Market.
The program included technical visits to the French National Laboratory for Metrology and Testing (LNE), the French Standardization Bureau for Mechanical Industries (UNM), UNESCO, the French Association for Standardization (AFNOR), and the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM).
During the visits, the delegation reviewed France’s metrology system and quality infrastructure, mechanisms for linking standards with industry, research, and innovation, and the role of international organizations in ensuring measurement accuracy and the mutual recognition of measurement and calibration results. The program also provided an opportunity to discuss prospects for technical cooperation and the implementation of joint programs and initiatives.
A series of bilateral meetings and technical discussions were held with officials and experts from the host organizations, during which both sides exchanged presentations on their respective standardization, metrology, and quality infrastructure systems. The delegation also conducted technical tours of specialized metrology laboratories, where participants gained first-hand insight into advanced technical capabilities, measurement and calibration technologies, and scientific research practices.
The “Knowledge Bridges” program forms part of GSO’s strategic direction, implemented through the GCC Training Center, to invest in Gulf competencies, strengthen international partnerships, and transfer best practices that support the development of quality infrastructure, enhance the competitiveness of productive and service sectors, and contribute to the advancement of the GCC Common Market.
