Speech of GSO President on the Occasion of Arab Standardization Day 2025
The GCC Standardization Organization (GSO) is proud to join its fellow organizations and institutions across the Arab world in celebrating Arab Standardization Day, observed annually on March 25.
This year, under the framework of the Arab Supreme Committee for Standardization of the Arab Organization for Industrial Development, Standardization and Mining (AIDSMO), the theme “Standardization is a Bridge to Arab Economic Integration” has been selected to mark the occasion.
This theme was chosen to underscore the vital role that standardization plays in enhancing the quality of Arab industries, developing productive sectors, and improving competitiveness. It also reflects the importance of reducing technical barriers to trade and facilitating smoother trade flows—both within Arab member states and between Arab countries and international markets. These efforts contribute to unifying our economic strategies, promoting regional integration, and advancing sustainable development across the Arab world.
Standardization is an essential pillar in achieving Arab economic integration. Through the harmonization of standards, it contributes to removing technical barriers to trade and facilitates the exchange of goods and services. It enables Arab countries to attain higher levels of quality and reliability in products, services, and processes—building trust among consumers and within the production and service sectors.
Moreover, standardization plays a central role in fostering innovation and technological development. By encouraging companies to enhance their products and services to meet global benchmarks, standardization strengthens the competitiveness of Arab countries in the international marketplace.
Guided by the principles of integration and partnership, GSO maintains close and productive relations with AIDSMO and various Arab standardization bodies across numerous fields. These include the preparation and harmonization of standards, development of conformity assessment procedures, metrology, exchange of technical expertise and best practices, and capacity-building programs—all aimed at facilitating trade among member states and bolstering joint Arab action.
Since its establishment, GSO has been dedicated to developing Gulf standards, technical regulations, and conformity assessment procedures in cooperation with national standardization bodies in member states. Through strategic partnerships with regional and international standardization organizations, GSO continues to work toward a prosperous economy and a vibrant, sustainable society by contributing to safety, environmental protection, trade facilitation, and the support of the Gulf common market. To date, GSO has issued more than 28,000 Gulf standards and technical regulations covering a wide array of goods and products.
In conclusion, I take this opportunity to commend the significant efforts of the Arab Organization for Industrial Development, Standardization and Mining (AIDSMO) and its fruitful cooperation with Arab national standardization bodies and regional and international partners. I also extend my sincere thanks and appreciation to the Member States supporting GSO, and to all professionals dedicated to the field of standardization in its various disciplines.
Thank you, and may we continue to build together a unified and thriving Arab future through standardization.
