GSO Ministerial Committee for Standardization Affairs Adopts 10 Gulf Technical Regulations for a Number of Commodities and Products
 

His Excellency Mr. Saud bin Nasser Al-Khasibi, President of the GCC Standardization Organization (GSO), pointed out that the GSO Ministerial Committee for Standardization Affairs has adopted ten Gulf technical regulations for a number of commodities and products, as well as the Gulf technical regulations for water conservation tools.

Noting that the Ministerial Committee for Standardization Affairs held its fifth meeting on 11 May, 2023 in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman, and was chaired by His Excellency Mr. Qais bin Muhammad bin Musa Al-Youssef, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion,  Chairman of the current session of the Committee, and in the presence of Their Excellencies the heads of delegations of countries, members of the Ministerial Committee for Standardization Affairs, and the participation of His Excellency Mr. Jassim Muhammad Al-Budaiwi, Secretary-General of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf.

Indicating that the committee approved GSO final account for the fiscal year 2022, and adopted a number of decisions that enhance standardization activities in the member states. It also discussed a number of issues that enhance the quality of products, services and institutions in the GCC countries, support the development of quality infrastructure and ensure the safety of products traded in the Gulf common market.

He said that the committee praised the efforts of GSO and the national standardization bodies in promoting cooperation and integration between the GCC countries in the various disciplines of standardization, in a way that contributes to the accomplishment of the Gulf common market, achieves the full flow of goods, and enhances the levels of environmental and consumer protection.

GSO President added that His Excellency the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion of the Sultanate of Oman welcomed the members of GSO Ministerial Committee for Standardization Affairs and their Excellencies participating in the meeting, wishing them a pleasant stay in the Sultanate of Oman, and stressed in his speech the importance of cooperation, coordination and integration of efforts to support standardization activities among the member states to contribute to achieving economic growth and streamlining the process of doing business, looking forward that GSO standardization  activities will contribute to the development of quality infrastructure and upgrading of products and services provided to the Gulf consumer, in a way that achieves the Gulf strategic goals to raise the attractiveness of the investment environment in the GCC States.

At the meeting, His Excellency GSO President gave a visual presentation about GSO activities and achievements during the period from October 2022 to April 2023 in the fields of standards, metrology and conformity, the level of progress in implementing the strategic plan initiatives, building technical capabilities, strengthening regional and international relations and exchanging experiences with all parties concerned with standardization activities.

It is worthwhile noting that the GCC Standardization Organization (GSO) performs its activities in the various disciplines of standardization, and aims to unify the various standardization activities and follow up on their implementation and adherence to them in cooperation and coordination with the national standardization bodies in the GCC States, in a way that contributes to the development of intra trade, protecting consumers, environment and public health, and encouraging GCC industries and products, which in effect boosting the Gulf economy.
