GSO organizes the 6th Gulf Conference on Laboratory Proficiency next October
 

The GCC Standardization Organization for the Cooperation Council of the Arab States of the Gulf (GSO) is due to organize the 6th Gulf Conference on Laboratory Proficiency on 18-19 October 2022 at the Intercontinental Hotel, Riyadh.

The conference will be under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Majid bin Abdullah Al-Qasabi, Minister of Commerce in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO), and member of GSO Ministerial Committee for Standardization Affairs.

The conference is jointly organized through strategic partnership between GSO, SASO, and the Gulf Laboratories Assembly GULFLAB).

The event will be held simultaneously via physical and virtual attendance.

In a statement, His Excellency Mr. Saud bin Nasser Al-Khusaibi, President of GSO, explained that the conference comes this year under the theme “Laboratory Efficiency for Safe and Sustainable Food”, to shed light on the most important challenges, opportunities and solutions within modern international trends and practices.

He added that participation will encompass elite from those interested regional and international organizations, national standardization bodies and laboratories operating in the member states.

His Excellency pointed out that the conference aims to achieve a set of immediate and future goals, the most important of which is providing a platform for communication and dialogue between laboratories operating in member states, introducing new developments in laboratories infrastructure, accreditation and legislation in member countries, as well as investigating laboratories needs and priorities in terms of proficiency testing programmers, and supporting international recognition of competency of the activities of laboratories operating in the member states, in addition to promoting the distinguished Gulf laboratories experience.

He added that the working papers that will be presented by specialized experts from a number of international and regional organizations will review a number of topics, the most important of which are competency tests as an important tool for competitiveness, innovation and industry development, and the role of laboratories in enhancing food safety in the Gulf common market, and enhancing quality infrastructure for food sustainability.

It will also review the competency of laboratories and lessons learned from the Covid-19 pandemic, food regulation and testing legislation, in addition to the role of accreditation of competence of laboratories in order to enhance food safety and sustainability.

His Excellency indicated that the conference, in its sixth edition, is a platform for specialists in the region to exchange experiences and learn the most prominent trends and new technologies, and an exceptional opportunity for specialists and personnel in the examination and calibration sector to communicate and discuss modern trends and the most up to date solutions to the challenges of the laboratory sector.

His Excellency the President of GSO invited local, regional, and international bodies in the fields of calibration, testing, standardization, accreditation, food control, research centers, institutes and universities, legislation and control, food testing, and food product manufacturers to register in the conference through the GCC Standardization Organization website www.gso.org.sa to attend, participate and enrich the conference sessions with proposals and ideas and exchange views on ways to support the efforts of GSO and standardization bodies in the member states.
