GSO Celebrates the Arab Standardization Day 2021
 

The GCC Standardization Organization (GSO) is participating in celebrating the Arab Standardization Day, with Arab Industrial Development, Standardization and Mining Organization (AIDSMO), which falls on March 25th of each year. The slogan chosen for the Arabic Standardization Day 2021 is “Standards support Quality of Life in our Communities.”

In his speech of this occasion, His Excellency Mr. Saud bin Nasser Al Khusaibi, GSO President, said the slogan of the celebration of the Arab Standardization Day this year was chosen by AIDSMO as a belief of the importance role that standards play in supporting the development Lifestyle and its strong relationship in supporting the quality life in our societies and provide safety for everyone.

His Excellency explained that the standards help all society members to exercise their rights in safety and health. In addition, providing them with protection and obtaining correct information by ensuring the quality, safety of goods, products, and services by specifying the requirements that must be met.

Furthermore, his Excellency added that the standards also help to achieve higher levels of quality of goods, products, and services at lower costs by ensuring competition between producers, manufacturers and facilitates consumers to make an informed decision when they decide to buy a product or obtain a specific service.

His Excellency stated that the GSO has been working, in cooperation and coordination with the national standardization bodies in the member states, and through its partnerships with various international and regional organizations working in the field of standardization, to prepare and develop standards and Gulf technical regulations that support the quality of life for the Gulf community by contributing In achieving public safety, protecting the environment, facilitating trade exchange and supporting the Gulf economy. GSO has issued more than 23,500 Gulf standards and technical regulations covering various goods and products.

Referring to the great and effective role of GSO during the Covid-19 by taking a number of exceptional measures that accompanied the challenges posed by the Corona pandemic at the Gulf and international levels, as it adopted many international standards related to face masks, disinfectants, sterilizers and medical tools, and made many of them available for free to beneficiaries on GSO’s electronic portals. In addition to following up compliance with the Gulf standards and technical regulations, and its work to extend the validity period of the relevant certificates, and to facilitate work on some systems with the aim of facilitating trade exchange and facilitating the flow of goods between the countries of the Cooperation Council, in implementation of the decisions of their Excellencies Ministers of Commerce in the countries of the Cooperation Council and the recommendations of the GSO Technical Council.

In the conclusion of his speech, His Excellency praised the great efforts made by international, regional, and national organizations in the field of standardization. He also thanked all workers in the fields of standardization and its various activities in the Arab standardization bodies, and all those who supported the GSO and standards in all its activities and fields.

It should be mentioned that on 25th of March each year coincides with the anniversary of the establishment of the Arab Organization for Standardization and Metrology, which was established in March 25th1968, in Cairo as one of the organizations of the League of Arab States, which was merged into the framework of the Arab Organization for Industrial Development and Mining in 1988. The Arab Standardization Day was celebrated for the first time on 25th of March 1999.
