GSO Technical Council holds its 60th meeting in Kuwait, adopts (199) Gulf standards
The Technical Council of the GCC Standardization Organization (GSO) held its 60th meeting on Monday and Tuesday 21-22 April 2025.
The meeting was hosted by the State of Kuwait, represented by the Public Authority for Industry, with participation of the representatives of the Member States – Heads of National Standardization Bodies in the Member States – in the presence of His Excellency the President of GSO and a representative of the GCC General Secretariat.
H.E. Eng. Nawaf bin Ibrahim Al Mana, President of GSO, highlighted in a statement that GSO Technical Council adopted in its meeting a new set of Gulf standards for a number of goods and products amounting to 199 draft Gulf standards covering different sectors, and approved 7 draft Gulf technical regulations.
He pointed out that the Council also approved the conversion of (221) Gulf technical regulations into Gulf standards, and approved (15) translation projects of Gulf standards / technical regulations, as well as the approval of the plans of the Gulf technical committees, and the general framework of the strategic plan of GSO for 2026-2030.
The meeting was started by an opening speech by H.E. Eng. Mohammed bin Ahmed Al-Mulla, Deputy Director General for Standards and Industrial Services at the Public Authority for Industry, Chairman of the current session of the Council. He welcomed the participants and wished them a good stay in the State of Kuwait. He also praised the distinguished efforts of the Qatar General Organization for Standards and Standardization for managing the work of the previous session of the Technical Council 2024, and appreciated the cooperation demonstrated by all national standardization bodies in supporting the Gulf standardization system, wishing the meeting every success and to accomplish the envisaged results.
His Excellency Eng. Nawaf bin Ibrahim Al Mana, President of GSO, delivered a speech at the meeting in which he welcomed the participants, extended his thanks and appreciation to the State of Kuwait for hosting the meeting, praised the distinguished efforts made by the staff of the Public Authority for Industry in arranging the meeting and the good organization, warm reception and hospitality, thanked Their Excellencies the members of the Technical Council for supporting GSO’s activities, and congratulated His Excellency Mr. Shamlan bin Hamoud Al Jahidli, Director General of the Public Authority for Industry, and His Excellency Eng. Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Mulla, Assistant Undersecretary for Industrial Services, on their appointment in their new posts; wishing them every success.
He also hailed the efforts exerted by H.E. Engineer Mohammed bin Eid Al Adwani during his past participation in the meetings and events of GSO, wishing him success in his career.
It is worthwhile mentioning that GSO is active in various disciplines of standardization and aims to unify the various standardization activities and follow up their implementation and compliance in cooperation and coordination with the standardization bodies in the member states, in order to contribute to the development of intra trade among member states, protection of the consumer, environment and public health, and encourage Gulf industries and products in order to support the Gulf economy.
