GSO Participates in the 61st Meeting of the Arab High Committee for Standardization in Rabat
The GCC Standardization Organization (GSO) participated in the 61st meeting of the Arab High Committee for Standardization, affiliated with the Arab Industrial Development and Mining Organization (AIDSMO), held from 11–12 February 2026 in Rabat, Kingdom of Morocco.
The meetings witnessed high-level participation from heads and representatives of Arab national standardization bodies, along with representatives of specialized international organizations, including the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), and ASTM International. This reflects the importance of these meetings as an effective Arab platform for coordinating positions, exchanging expertise, and strengthening joint technical cooperation in line with global developments in standardization and quality.
In this context, the President of GSO emphasized the importance of strengthening joint Arab cooperation in the field of standardization, describing it as a strategic pillar closely linked to community safety and security, trade facilitation, competitiveness enhancement, improved quality of life, and support for national industries. The address underscored that integrating roles, unifying visions, and sharing knowledge among Arab bodies and regional and international organizations represent the fastest path toward achieving tangible and sustainable impact. It also highlighted the importance of capacity building and knowledge transfer to empower Arab technical competencies and enhance the readiness of standardization systems to keep pace with global changes. The speech concluded by reaffirming the significance of the outcomes of these meetings in advancing standardization and quality across the Arab region and supporting joint Arab action to achieve development and enhance economic competitiveness.
In addition, GSO participated in the 19th meeting to follow up on the implementation of the Arab Strategy for Standardization and Quality, which commenced on Monday, 9 February 2026, with participation both in person and via remote communication technology. The meeting focused on monitoring the implementation of the Arab Strategy for Standardization and Quality, aimed at supporting and strengthening the quality infrastructure system and enhancing the competitiveness of Arab economies.
During the meeting, GSO delivered a presentation on the general framework of its Strategic Plan for 2026–2030, with the aim of exchanging perspectives in support of the standardization system at the Arab level. The Standards and Metrology Center at AIDSMO also presented an update on the progress of implementing the metrology pillar action plan under the Arab Strategy for Standardization and Quality 2024–2028.
GSO affirmed that its participation in both meetings reflects its commitment to supporting Arab efforts to develop quality systems, enhance technical coordination, and exchange successful experiences in a manner that serves consumer safety, facilitates the smooth flow of goods and services, and improves market efficiency, in light of the cooperation agreement signed between the two parties.
