GSO Hosts the Week of Activities of the Gulf Technical Committees and Working Groups
 

The Week of activities of the Gulf Technical Committees and Working Groups, as well as the Gulf General and Steering Committees kicked off on 31st August, 2025. The event is being held at the headquarter of the GCC Standardization Organization (GSO) in Riyadh, and extend over the course of two weeks. More than 40 technical committees and working groups held their regular meetings.

These activities entail a review and discussion of a range of topics related to Projects Gulf standards and technical regulations for various sectors, as well as their annual projects and plans. They also address issues and topics on the agenda for discussion that are of interest to member states, with the aim of unifying Gulf standards,  technical regulations and conformity assessment procedures, meeting the requirements of the Gulf common market, and agreeing on issues for discussion at the regional and international levels in the field of standardization.

More than 320 specialists and experts from national standardization bodies in member states, relevant government agencies, and supporting members participate in these meetings, either in person or virtually via video conferencing, for a number of Gulf Standards Technical Committees covering various sectors such as chemistry, textiles, mechanics, electricity, metrology, food and agriculture, construction, sustainable buildings, oil and gas, health, Halal, water, tourism and tourism services, tobacco products, vehicles and tires, toys, information and information technology, electrical energy, and renewable energy.

Gulf teams also held meetings, such as the Gulf Team for Social Responsibility, the Management Systems and Sustainable Development Team, the Regulatory Impact Analysis Mechanism Development Team, the Toy Regulation Update Team, the Monitoring and Notification Working Group (Aajel), the Modern Vehicle Safety Assessment Team, and the Working Group entrusted with preparing the GCC Quality Award study.

Meetings also held by Gulf general and steering committees such as the General Committee for Standards, the Gulf Committee for Conformity Assessment, the Gulf Committee for Laboratories, and the Gulf Steering Committee for Notification, in addition to the Gulf Committee for Conformity Assessment Governance Working Group and the joint meeting of Gulf general and steering committees.

It should be noted that the Gulf technical committees, working groups, and general and steering committees comprises representatives from all national standardization bodies and national government agencies in member states, in addition to the GCC Standardization Organization. These committees are responsible for preparing and developing Gulf standards and technical regulations in various vital industrial and economic sectors that meet the requirements of the Gulf common market and aim to ensure consumer safety, environment protection, and public health.

It should also be noted that, in line with its commitment to involving the public and private industrial and commercial sectors in member states and relevant parties, as well as academic and research institutions and regional and international organizations concerned with standardization, GSO allows them to participate in the work of the Gulf technical committees as supporting members through their contribution to the development of Gulf standards and technical regulations and their Projects, studying and commenting on them, and proposing projects that are urgently needed and of high priority, thereby contributing to strengthening partnerships with these sectors and improving the quality of outputs and the optimal application of these Gulf standards and technical regulations by participating entities.
