Speech of H.E. the GSO President on World Metrology Day 2025 Theme

Ladies and gentlemen,
Today, on the 20th of May, the world gathers to commemorate World Metrology Day, a day that highlights the vital role of metrology in shaping our history, enriching our present, and driving our future. The theme for this year, “Measurements for all times, for all people,” serves as a reminder of the universal importance of accurate and reliable measurements in every aspect of life.
On this special occasion, the GCC Standardization Organization (GSO) is proud to join national and international bodies around the world in celebrating this important day. I would like to take this opportunity to extend my heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all those working in national standardization bodies across the GCC member states, and, in particular, to our colleagues in the field of metrology.
This year’s celebration holds additional significance as it marks the 150th anniversary of the Meter Convention, a century and a half of remarkable international cooperation in metrology. Over these years, metrology has continuously evolved, playing a pivotal role in ensuring fair trade, enabling scientific progress, and, more recently, addressing global challenges such as climate change, public health, and sustainable development.
The theme of this year’s celebration emphasizes inclusivity and the importance of making reliable, traceable measurements accessible to all, everywhere. By doing so, we promote equality, support innovation, and foster sustainable growth across societies.
At GULFMET, national metrology laboratories in our member states continue to advance the science of measurement, developing and validating new techniques, and participating in regional and international intercomparison programs organized by GULFMET and the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM). These collaborative efforts ensure that measurement and calibration capabilities in our region meet globally recognized standards, guaranteeing the reliability and credibility of measurement results worldwide.
In conclusion, I extend my sincere appreciation to all those dedicated to the field of metrology for their valuable contributions. I wish them continued success in achieving their national aspirations and in reinforcing the essential role of metrology across all sectors of life.
Happy World Metrology Day!
Thank you.
