The Ministerial Committee for Standardization Affairs approves 17 Gulf technical regulations for a number of goods and products
 

 

His Excellency Mr. Jassim Mohammed Al-Budaiwi, Secretary-General of the Cooperation Council of the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC), stated that the GCC Ministerial Committee for Standardization Affairs approved 17 Draft Gulf technical regulations as new Gulf technical regulations for a number of goods and products for different sectors, and also approved the withdrawal of two draft Gulf technical regulations.

This was reached at the seventh meeting of the GCC Ministerial Committee for Standardization Affairs, which was held on Wednesday, 1st May, 2024, in Doha, State of Qatar. The meeting was presided over by His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Thani, Minister of Trade and Industry of the State of Qatar, Chairman of the current session, with the presence of Their Excellencies members of the Committee Ministers of Trade and Industry concerned with standardization affairs in the GCC States, and the participation of His Excellency Mr. Jassim Mohammed Al-Budai GCC Secretary General, and His Excellency Engineer Nawaf bin Ibrahim Al Mana, President of the GCC Standardization Organization (GSO).

His Excellency the GCC Secretary General indicated that the committee adopted a number of decisions that have bearing on supporting the Gulf standardization process by boosting standardization activities in the member States. Discussions also covered a group of topics aiming at enhancing the quality of products and services in the GCC States, and ensuring safety of products traded in the Gulf market.

His Excellency added that the committee adopted new Gulf technical regulations, and also approved the conversion of (39) Gulf technical regulations into Gulf standards, in addition to approving GSO final account for the fiscal year 2023.

His Excellency said that the Ministerial Committee for Standardization Affairs reviewed the report of the President of GSO about the progress and main achievements and outputs of GSO during the period September 2023 to March 2024, and hailed the tangible achievements that contributed to enhancing cooperation and integration between the GCC States in the different disciplines of standardization.

It is worthwhile mentioning that GSO performs its activities in the various fields of standardization, and strives to unify the various standardization activities and follow up on their implementation and adherence to them in cooperation and coordination with the national standardization bodies in the GCC States, in a way that contributes to the development of intra trade, protection of consumers, environment and public health, and encouraging Gulf industries and products which will in effect boost the Gulf economy.
