His Excellency Engineer Nawaf bin Ibrahim Al-Hamad Al-Mana began his tenure as President of the GCC Standardization Organization (GSO), succeeding His Excellency Mr. Saud bin Nasser Al-Khusaibi (April 2018 – April 2024).

This is based on the decision of the Ministerial Committee for Standardization Affairs for the GCC States.

The Ministerial Committee for Standardization Affairs, approved in its sixth meeting held on 14 September 2023, in the city of Salalah, Sultanate of Oman, the nomination of the representative of the State of Qatar to fill the position of the President of GSO, with effect from 28 April 2024.

The Ministerial Committee comprises Their Excellencies the Ministers of Trade and Industry concerned with standardization affairs in the member states.

His Excellency Engineer Nawaf Al Mana holds a master degree in management and engineering from Sheffield Hallam University in the United Kingdom in 2003. He obtained his bachelor degree in chemical engineering from Qatar University in 1994.

His Excellency has served in many senior administrative positions, including Vice President of Qatar General Organization for Standardization (QS) in compliance with the Amiri Resolution No. (58) of 2018, and prior to that, Director of Director of Standards Department (2008-2018), Director of the Central Laboratories Department (2002-2008), and a Standard Specialist, Department of Standards, Metrology and Consumer Protection (1994-2002).

Al Mana has also served as Chairman of the Follow-up Committee for the Arab Standardization Strategy from 2017 until now, as well as a member of the Board of Directors of the Gulf Accreditation Center, Chairman of the National Conformity Assessment Committee, and Chairman of the National Committee for Electrical and Electronic Standards. He also represented the State of Qatar in the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and the International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML), and the Codex Alimentarius Commission; in addition to GSO Standardization forums, and regional and international meetings and exhibitions concerned with standardization, besides representing Qatar General Organization for Standardization (QS) in negotiations with countries and regional and international organizations.

It is envisaged that His Excellency Engineer Nawaf bin Ibrahim Al Mana, through his long standing experience in the field of standardization and management, will contribute to continuing the successes achieved by GSO during the past period, in addition to developing GSO work, continuing to enhancing the process of joint Gulf action, and consolidating the infrastructure for standardization and quality in the member States in order to achieve the desired goals, aspirations and objectives.

It is worthwhile mentioning that GSO performs its activities in the various fields of standardization, and aims to unify the various standardization activities and follow up on their application and adherence to them in cooperation and coordination with the national standardization bodies in the GCC States members of GSO , in a way that contributes to the development of intra trade, protection of the consumer, environment and public health, and encouragement of Gulf industries and products to support the Gulf economy.
