GCC SG: The Ministerial Committee for Standardization Affairs adopts 10 Gulf technical regulations for a number of commodities and products
 

His Excellency Mr. Jassim Muhammad Al-Budaiwi, Secretary-General of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC), stated that the work of the GCC Ministerial Committee for Standardization Affairs has approved 10 Gulf technical regulations for a number of commodities and products, and the Gulf technical regulation for water conservation tools.

This was revealed today Thursday 11 May 2023 in Muscat, during the fifth meeting of the GCC Ministerial Committee for Standardization Affairs comprising Their Excellencies, Ministers of Commerce and Industry concerned with standardization affairs in the GCC States.

The meeting chaired by His Excellency Qais bin Muhammad Al-Youssef, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion in the Sultanate of Oman, Chairman of the current session, and in the presence of Their Excellencies the Ministers of Commerce and Industry concerned with standardization affairs in the GCC States, and participation of His Excellency Mr. Saud bin Nasser Al-Khasibi, President of GSO.

His Excellency the Secretary General said: His Excellency the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion of the Sultanate of Oman, the Chairman of the current session, welcomed the members of the GCC Ministerial Committee for Standardization Affairs and the participating delegations in the meeting, wishing them a pleasant stay in the Sultanate of Oman, underlining in his speech the importance of cooperation, coordination and integration of efforts to support standardization activities among the GCC States to contribute to achieving economic growth and facilitating doing business, trusting that the activities of GSO will contribute to the development of the quality infrastructure and upgrading of products and services offered to the Gulf consumer, in a way that achieves the Gulf strategic goals to raise the attractiveness of the investment environment in the GCC countries.

His Excellency the Secretary-General also stated that the GCC Ministerial Committee for Standardization Affairs had viewed a presentation by GSO  President about the activities and achievements of GSO during the period from October 2022 to April 2023 in the areas of standards, metrology and conformity, the level of progress in implementing the strategic plan initiatives, building technical capabilities, strengthening regional and international relations, exchanging of experiences with all parties involved in standardization activities, adding that the Committee praised the efforts exerted by GSO and the national standardization bodies in promoting cooperation and integration among the GCC States in the various fields of standardization, in a way that contributes to the accomplishment of the Gulf common market, bring about the full flow of goods, and enhances the levels of protection of environment and consumer.

His Excellency indicated that the GCC Ministerial Committee came out with a number of decisions supporting the process of cooperation and integration between the GCC states, which enhance standardization activities within the GCC states.

He added that the Committee adopted ten Gulf technical regulations for a number of commodities and products, and it also approved the Gulf technical regulations for water conservation tools, in addition to approving the GSO final account for the fiscal year 2022, and discussed a number of topics that enhance the quality of products, services and institutions in the GCC States, support the development of quality infrastructure, ensure the safety of products traded in the Gulf common market and to protect individuals, societies, and the environment against their risks and adverse effects.
