The standard applies to Infant Formula for older infant (from birth until 6 months of age) and Follow-Up Formula (from 6 until 36 months of age) in liquid or powder form as well as it applies to Formulas for Special Medical Purposes Intended for Infants (from birth until 12 months of age) in liquid or powder form and prepared to meet special nutritional and medical needs. This standard contains compositional, quality and safety requirements .The application of this Standard should take into account the recommendations made in the International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes (1981), the Global Strategy for Infant and Young Child Feeding and World Health Assembly resolution WHA54.2 (2001), in a way that does not contradict with national laws, regulations, and circulars issued by the Gulf Cooperation Council.
