Main objectives are

To offer high-quality and updated training on national, comparative and regional legal frameworks in the area of market surveillance.
To make new concepts, new legal rules and best practices in the area better known and understood by all stakeholders on the GCC common market.
To promote exchange of knowledge and experiences between participants from GSO member countries;
To constitute a network of national experts in the area.

Who Should Attend? This programme is intended for:

Staff members of interested GCC institutions;
Staff members of national market surveillance authorities in GSO States (Standardization Organizations and Departments of Authorities in charge of consumer protection, line ministries, customs, etc.);
Staff members of other institutions active in market surveillance throughout the Gulf region;
Consumer organisations active in GSO States;
Chambers of commerce, trade associations and economic operators;
Members of scientific or academic institutions or researchers;

Methodology

Lectures with PowerPoint presentations + special working sessions with case-studies on selected topics. Participants will be invited to ask questions during the sessions and an interactive method shall be used whenever possible.
One session will be devoted to present and discuss recent developments in the region in the area of consumer protection, product safety and market surveillance.

Documentation

Updated and most relevant documentation materials will be provided to the participants.

Syllabus for each course containing the lecturers' presentations, list of legal references and relevant bibliographies in English or Arabic.
USB key containing main relevant documentation serving as a support to each session of the training.

The legal and institutional framework for a comprehensive market surveillance policy.
Assessing the policy and legal framework for market surveillance in the Gulf region

Closing session

On-going developments taking place at GCC level, by host institution.
Concluding remarks and distribution of certificates/diplomas.

The proposed programme offers a general training, covering selected topics linked to the safety of industrial and consumer goods in a legal perspective. The programme will focus on the legislations of horizontal and vertical nature and will be oriented on the practical implementation and comparative law.
